Devaraya II:
He also had another name, Pratap Rudra. Devaraya II was the greatest ruler of the Sangama dynasty. He also wore the title 'Gaja Bentekara'. Devaraya II defeated Gajapati Kapilendra of Orissa and conquered Kondaveedu. He hid the chieftains of the border areas and extended the north-eastern frontier up to the Krishna river. He later conquered Kerala and accepted tributes from Kerala and Sri Lanka. Thus he became the "Emperor of the South Path".With these conquests, the Vijayanagara Empire extended from the borders of Ceylon to Gulbarga and also to Telangana and Malabar. According to Nuniz, the kings of Ceylon, Pulicat, Pegu, part of Myanmar and Malaya made tributes to Pradyadevaraya. He defeated the traditional enemy Bahmani Ahmad Shah as far as Bijapur and captured Mudgal and Bankapur. Lakkanna Dandesha, the commander of Devaraya II, undertook a naval expedition and succeeded.He was supremely tolerant. He built a mosque in the capital. Jain and Vaishnava temples were built. He was a poet himself and in his court were the Sanskrit poet Dindima and the Kannada poet Lakkanna Dandesha. The Veerashaiva tradition and literature were revived during devaraya's time. The rule of the Sangama dynasty came to an end with weak kings who came after the death of Devaraya II in 1446 CE.
